Essential Oils General Wellness

Why these oils?

The Best Essential Oils

If you know me, you trust my opinion and know that I wouldn’t bullshit you, I would never suggest you try something that didn’t taste good, or recommend you purchase or invest in something that wasn’t worth it. So if you are here you may be wondering where to buy essential oils, well trust me… I Got You! But I want you to understand why you don’t have to look farther than here.

I have been using essential oils for over 20 years and have tried most of them. These are by far the Purest, Safest, Most Effective and therefore the Most Affordable essential oils available on the market today. And I take great pride and love helping people learn how, and when to safely use them. I know you are on a journey of discovery for yourself or maybe a loved one so I’m sharing here some additional information you may find helpful in your learning search.

Be careful where you look, and what you read… some articles aren’t written by an aromatherapist and those knowledgable about the use of oils but commercial writers who query information on the internet, including content sponsored by Big Pharma, which will often convey caution and fear so you continue to rely on pharmaceuticals and over the counter remedies to “treat what ails you”…

Essential oils are everywhere. You can find essential oils at grocery stores, online, and even in your neighborhood market. With so many choices, how do you know which essential oils are best?

The essential oil industry is not regulated so many essential oils on the market are heavily contaminated or adulterated with synthetic chemicals, and that means they should not be used for therapeutic purposes. But Pure essential oils are different, you need to trust that the company providing the oils has integrity and offers quality guarantees. If you aren’t buying direct, and if it is inexpensive, I feel confident in saying it is probably not pure. In an unregulated industry with growers, harvesters, brokers, bottlers, marketers and distributors… everyone needs to make money. And the cheaper it is to you the cheaper the quality of what is in the bottle. …let that soak in.

If you’re buying essential oils for your health and mood, you want something completely natural and safe. Make sure that you don’t inadvertently buy something you think is natural but turns out to be synthetic.  And unfortunately buying from third-party sources (like Amazon, and Walmart online are not buying direct…and I won’t trust the quality).

When you want essential oils that are safe and effective, the most important thing to look for is purity. Pure essential oils will allow you to reap the full benefits that nature has to offer, and you can be confident knowing that they are safe to use to use with your family. Remember, you usually get what you pay for, and essential oils are no different.

What to Look for When Buying Essential Oils

In a market where every company claims to have “pure” essential oils, how do you really know if the oils you’re using are pure? How do you know if the essential oils you’re buying are worthy of being used by you and your family?

If you want the best essential oils, find out if the company you plan to buy from takes the following precautions to ensure the quality of their oils:

  • Sustainable and responsible sourcing (Where do their oils come from?)
  • Extensive and thorough testing (Do they test their oils for adulteration and contamination?)
  • Clear and accessible safety and usage information (Do they show customers how to use the oils safely?)
  • Transparency (Do they use third-party testing? Do they make test results public?)

What Makes doTERRA Different?

When you use a bottle of doTERRA essential oil, you’re using an oil that is pure. There are no contaminants, fillers, or adulterations. The essential oil industry did not have standards to ensure purity, so doTERRA created one.

Every batch of doTERRA essential oils goes through a rigorous testing process—well beyond what would be considered “good enough.” After that, each oil is sent to an independent third party for further testing and validation.

Pure Essential Oils Pass Tests

If the oil passes the tests, it’s labeled as CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade®. When you see the CPTG® label, you know you’re using the purest essential oils on the market.

Want to see the purity of doTERRA oils for yourself? Every single bottle of doTERRA oil comes with a quality ID. Use the ID number on the bottom of your bottle to view the third-party test results for that batch of oil by clicking below:

More than Essential Oils

It’s more than just testing that sets doTERRA essential oils apart. doTERRA works diligently to make a difference. Our mission is to change the world one drop, one person, one community at a time.

Responsible Sourcing of Essential Oils

There are several ways to produce essential oils, and not all essential oils are created equal. Some companies choose to cut costs by using low-quality plants or adulterate their oils with cheap substances. While cutting corners might save an essential oil company time and money, it will result in a low-quality oil.

Unfortunately, many of the production methods in the essential oil industry can also be harmful to the environment or result in the unfair treatment of farmers and growers.

Where do doTERRA essential oils come from?

Every oil sold by doTERRA is responsibly and sustainably sourced. doTERRA focuses on sourcing practices that will produce only the highest quality essential oils—no matter the cost. We make it a top priority to protect the environment during the production process and provide fair treatment of all harvesters and growers.

doTERRA created the Co-Impact Sourcing® Initiative and the following 8 principles to ensure responsible practices in all our sourcing communities:

  1. Generating Jobs: Reduce poverty by creating and sustaining jobs
  2. Providing Fair, On-Time Payments: Offer consistent, fair payments to producers, including prepayments
  3. Building Supplier Capacity: Support farmers, producers, and distillers through training and financial support
  4. Sustaining Long-Term Partnerships: Provide multi-year contracts with growers and distillers based on solidarity and respect
  5. Ensuring Fair Labor Conditions: Create healthy and safe working environments, free from harassment and discrimination
  6. Promoting Cooperatives: Guarantee respect the right for all employees and producers to join and form co-operatives
  7. Furthering Environmental Stewardship: Promote energy efficient technologies, renewable energy, and waste minimization
  8. Facilitating Community Development: Support community development projects in sourcing communities such as schools, health clinics, training facilities, and clean water systems

We take pride in sourcing the most pure, potent, and effective essential oils in environmentally and socially responsibly ways. Learn more at

Humanitarian Impact

From the beginning, doTERRA wanted to be more than a business. “There are givers and there are takers,” said David Stirling, doTERRA Founding Executive, CEO. “We wanted doTERRA to be a giver.”

To accomplish that, the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation® was created—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps support community development projects in sourcing communities. These kinds of projects include funding for and building of schools, health clinics, training facilities, and clean water systems.

The doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation also partners with a variety of other organizations to support disaster relief; anti-human trafficking prevention, rescue, and rehabilitation; microloan programs; and feminine hygiene education.

doTERRA generously donates to cover all administrative costs of the foundation so that 100% of all donations go directly to aid. When you partner with the doTERRA Healing Hands Foundation, your donation could save a child from human trafficking, repair a home devastated by a natural disaster, or help provide someone with access to healthcare.

Green Mandarin Oil Citrus nobilis

Don’t you just love learning about new essential oils? Well, Green Mandarin essential oil is known for supporting healthy digestive and immune systems when used internally.* Also a cool thing to know is that Green Mandarin essential oil is pressed from the unripened fruit of the mandarin tree, while Red Mandarin essential oil comes from a more mature fruit. This oil has some pretty amazing properties which include being anti-coagulant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antispasmodic, antitumor, antiviral, expectorant, laxative, and sedative.

Primary Benefits of Green Mandarin oil

Fad diets are a popular trend and most focus on consuming high amounts of protein and low amounts of carbohydrates. This unbalance can wreak havoc on our fiber intake!

According to the American Journal of Lifestyle Medicine, even with a healthy diet, most people only get half the amount of fiber they need. The FDA recommends 25–38 grams of dietary fiber every day depending on age, weight, and gender.*

The importance of a healthy gut microbiome and its relation to the immune system has recently become an area of scientific studies. Research has shown much of your immune system can be found in the GI tract. The addition of the special prebiotic blend in dōTERRA Fiber provides food for probiotics in the gut to support a healthy microbiome and immune system.*

  1. What type of protein is used?
    a. Chocolate and Vanilla: Whey protein concentrate and casein.
    b. Vegan: pea, brown rice, flaxseed, Sacha inchi, and pumpkin seed.
  2. Is there any soy in the products?
    a. All of the new products are soy free.
  3. Are these safe for pregnant and lactating women?
    a. We recommend any women who are pregnant or lactating inform their physician about their use of our products and to follow their physician’s advice. However, when used appropriately, we know of no contradictions that would prevent someone from using dōTERRA products.
  4. Why are the new products not labeled as organic?
    a. Pursuing organic certification was something we considered. However, our current quality control processes and analytical testing provide an equivalent benefit as organic certification. Additionally, pursuing organic certification would increase the cost of the product, and we decided to prioritize affordability to keep these products as accessible as possible for all.
  5. Are all the dо̄TERRA Protein flavors gluten free?
    a. Yes, all of the dо̄TERRA Protein options (Chocolate, Vanilla, and Vegan) are certified gluten free. The oat flour included in these products is sourced from a specific plant in Ireland that has very strict gluten controls in place.
  6. Are the Fiber and Greens gluten free?
    a. While they are not certified gluten-free, we have verified that all the ingredients in these two products are free of gluten. (and all other allergens except for dairy which is in the vanilla and chocolate whey protein shakes).
  7. Why are sweeteners added to the products?
    a. Monk fruit and stevia—which are both natural sweeteners—were added to the dо̄TERRA Nutrition products to help them be delicious as stand-alone mixes.
  8. Do the ingredients follow our sourcing practices?
    a. As with all our products, these new products follow dо̄TERRA’s commitment to best sourcing practices. We avoid any questionable supply chain sources and follow the same rigid testing standards (potency, purity, contaminants, etc.) that we hold ourselves to
    with all our products.
  9. Are any products being discontinued once this new line launches?
    a. Yes, dо̄TERRA Protein will replace all Slim and Sassy Trim Shakes, and dо̄TERRA Greens is the new, improved version of TERRAGreens. doTERRA Fiber is a new product and therefore will not be replacing any current products we offer.
  10. Are these products safe for children to consume?
    a. While the Nutrition products were designed with the nutritional needs of adults in mind, these products were made using whole food ingredients that can be found in the daily diet of adults and children. Though all of the Nutritional products should generally be safe for children, we recommend that parents adjust serving sizes for children as
    they see necessary.
  11. Are the greens and fiber Vegan?
    a. Yes, the Greens and Fiber are both vegan.
  12. What flavor is the Vegan protein?
    a. The Vegan protein is vanilla flavored.
  13. What flavor is the Vegan protein?
    a. The Vegan protein is vanilla flavored.
  14. Why did we include Maltodextrin?
    a. Maltodextrin is used as an excipient (processing aid or carrier or incidental additive) and is a crucial ingredient for the production process. The maltodextrin used to produce dо̄TERRA supplements is sourced from natural sources like corn, wheat, cassava or tapioca root and is used in very small amounts. dо̄TERRA is transparent with our product labeling and this is why you see maltodextrin listed on our supplement labels and may not see it included on supplement labels from other companies.
  15. What are the natural flavors?
    a. Instead of listing 5-10 different flavor components (I.e., the Vanilla flavor- there is vanilla extract, vanillin, and other natural flavors that contribute to give that desired vanilla flavor) we list it as natural flavor.
  16. Why did we include Oat Flour?
    a. We included this as an additional source of protein and fiber, as well as a source of beta-glucan. In a crowded protein space, this unique source of protein and fiber helps to differentiate our product, providing a nice taste and mouthfeel along with the benefits of beta-glucan, all while being certified gluten-free (at 10 ppm, which is tighter than the
    industry requirement of 20 ppm).
    b. The oat flour we are using is independently verified to be gluten-free by Gluten Watchdog and is certified by the Celiac Societies of Ireland, the UK, and Spain.
  17. What are the serving sizes?
    a. Vanilla Protein: 1 serving is 37g; 20 servings total
    b. Chocolate Protein: 1 serving is 41g; 20 servings total
    c. Vegan Protein: 1 serving is 39g; 20 servings total
    d. dо̄TERRA Greens: 1 serving is 12g; 30 servings total

  21. Which Markets can purchase these new items?

Staying healthy is about cleaning hands often and surfaces. Seems logical right!? Sounds familiar from growing up! I’m pretty sure I preached the same to my kids when they were younger as well.

It makes perfect sense! Wash away the germs before we put our fingers in our mouth or rub our faces or our eyes!! I have to admit, now that I am aware, I never realized How Much I Touched My Face!! CRAZY, Right!?

Let’s face it, reducing toxic load is one step easier on our body to fight what ailes us!

My thoughts… if we eliminate toxins, our bodies can focus on fighting disease.  This is why I have replaced candles and plug-ins with diffusers, and commercial deodorants and lotions with natural homemade alternatives, and over the counter options with CPTG essential oils…

For those of you who love OnGuard… You will love OnGuard Concentrated Cleaner!!

I use this everywhere!!
– Stainless (watch video below)
– Granite
– Countertops
– Microwave/inside fridge
– Wood floors
– tile floors
– windows

… Boyz be like

Watch this quick video on how clean my stove gets with a paper towel and OnGuard Cleaner…

Ancient Oils

The doTERRA Ancient Oils Collection is inspired by the peoples of the distant past. The Collection comes in a beautifully designed, natural wood box and includes six essential oils used by the most important people in the world as for their health benefits and to improve wellbeing in ancient times—CPTG® Myrrh, Frankincense, Galbanum, Hyssop, Cistus, and Common Myrtle.

Take pleasure in these captivating oils.

Myrrh Commiphora myrrha 5 mL: Ancient records show that Myrrh was deemed so valuable that at times it was valued at its weight in gold. Myrrh has been used throughout history in perfumes and religious ceremonies, and for its internal and external health benefits.

Frankincense Boswellia carterii, Boswellia sacra, Boswellia papyrifera, Boswellia frereana 5 mL: In addition to its notoriety in the New Testament, the Babylonians and Assyrians would burn Frankincense in religious ceremonies and the ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin in everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin.

Galbanum Ferula galbaniflua 5 mL: Egyptians used Galbanum for incense and embalming. The Roman and Greek civilizations used it in beauty products and perfume. Hippocrates used it for its other benefits. Galbanum was even mentioned in the Bible.

Hyssop Hyssopus officinalis 2.5 mL: Hyssop, a member of mint family, was regarded by both the Greeks and the Hebrews as a sacred herb. It is mentioned several times in the Old Testament and is known as one of oldest herbs used by human beings.

Cistus Cistus ladaniferus 5 mL: Also known as Rock Rose, Sun Rose, Rose of Sharon, and Labdanum, use of Cistus for perfume and incense was known in Biblical times. For centuries, Cistus has been used during meditation and for other benefits.

Common Myrtle Myrtus communis 5 mL: Common Myrtle, also known as Corsican pepper, has been used for thousands of years as a symbol of love, honor, happiness, and generosity. Its benefits were well known as early as 600 B.C. In the Bible, it was used in purification ceremonies.

December a Time of Giving

Following the month of giving thanks (November), December comes around and we are giving gifts to those we love. I can’t be alone here!? Whether you grew up celebrating Hanukkah, Christmas, Yule any other annual celebration, we all seem to find ourselves gifting others in someway as a “closing gesture” to another year gone by.

What a crazy year 2020 has been, with a Global pandemic of an never before experienced virus that overwhelmed our health system. This year has been fueled by the unknown and unfortunately at times it has manifested into fear for so many. Not a healthy way to live at all.

We huncered down with everyone else early in 2020 as we all listened to the media and local officials define our lives and offer their guideance. But I am telling you now, my family refuses to live in fear. We will continue to fight to stay healthy, by eating right, managing stress, getting a proper rest and sleep and supporting our immune health while we continue to support our family. We have never felt more healthy. We are diffusing daily, taking our supplements and yes I am sharing and helping others learn more about what we are doing so our friends can stay healthy too.

Initially I hesitate to share with our friends in the Motorcycle community, they may think me a little strange at times, but they are starting to appreciate the benefits of these alternatives for their health and wellness. And the business opportunity to help others has been thriving. I absolutely love what I do!

Now, as you know I love our essential oils and you are probably here because you love them too or at least want to learn more about them! So join me here for 25 DAYS of Gift Giving ideas with some daily recommendations of some of my favorite oils and products I give to my family and loved ones.

With the help of our resources and our friends at Essential Oils Academy for these beautiful info graphics, I hope you find some inspiration in these gift ideas. May you have a Happy, Healthy, and Strong Holiday season and may your New Year be Blessed with Health and Joy.

Essential Oils General Wellness Healthy Home Immune Support

Winter, stay healthy

During these colder months we aren’t able to get out in the yard or on the road as much. But that doesn’t change who we are! We are Bikers, we travel and get out of the house as often as we can, but now of course like so many others during this continued and extended pandemic, only as needed (“Freedom over Fear”).

But we are not Rebels without a cause! We are intelligent adults, we respect our family, friends, and others and when appropriate we do wear our masks while in close proximity to others when off of our property. And I always make and have hand sanitizer available when we are away from a water source (and we use it).

Let’s talk about some of the things we can all do to stay healthy during these closed in, dry winter months.

1. Studies suggest that a relative humidity of 40–60% is ideal for containing the virus. I have increased the humidity in the house by adding humidifiers adjusting the furnace attachment setting and I will be moving a self-contained garden fountain indoors on a tray by my plants (you could also run a humidifier).

2. I have also added more house plants (which will keep me busy and out of the fridge), and have added pebbled humidity trays.

3. We keep our immune system strong with regular daily vitamins and supporting essential oils.

Life Long Vitality supplements

4. We keep our surfaces clean, wash our hands often and I have hand sanitizer available in the pockets of our coats, our cars, purses, and back-packs with OnGuard oil to help kill germs and keep us healthy.

5. And of course, I diffuse essential oils in every room at least once a day! Here are some diffuser blends for cleaning the air

6. And as I mentioned we do wear our masks. But for our extended use (like when we are traveling or on the airplane I like to place One-drop of Breathe or OnGuard on a felt dot inside the mask to help support our breathing and overall health.

You can learn more about all of the different ways to use the essential oils in your collection by attending any or all of our online workshops!

What do you do to mitigate risk?

Some risks, such as your age, you can’t change. But there are things you can do to minimize your risk of catching and getting very sick with the virus or any other contagious germ:

  • Maintain a healthy weight and stay as physically fit as you can. Staying physically healthy, eating nutritiously, reduce sugar intake, etc.
  • Limit the number of people you come into contact with, gatherings of large groups with strangers isn’t encouraged right now anyway… but you could make extra steps to avoid those situations
  • Sit/stand side-by-side or behind other people, rather than facing them and avoid loud talking or singing with others
  • Meet people outdoors, rather than indoors
  • Keep interactions brief
  • Wear a face covering on public transport, in shops or crowded indoor places
  • Increase ventilation indoors if you have visitors – open a window, diffuse essential oils, turn on circulation or ceiling fans
  • Increase humidity in the air through humidifiers, water diffusers, whole house humidifier.

And remember 3 things: Hands, Space, Face.

If you would like to learn more about using essential oils in your home instead of toxic chemical air fresheners (which can contribute to headaches and other issues), please search this site for other information on essential oils or contact me directly and I would be happy to help you.

Black Spruce Oil

picea mariana

The name mariana means “of Maryland.” Phillip Miller, who named the species, felt that Maryland epitomized North America – but the species does not actually grow there!

A powerful wood essential oil, Black Spruce is distilled from the needles and branches of the Picea Mariana tree. Known to create a relaxing atmosphere, start your day off with the cooling and soothing benefits of Black Spruce. Co-impact sourced by doTERRA from Canada, we absolutely love the scent of this little bottle of oil!

As I learn more about these oils and share them with you I hope you come to appreciate their benefits as well.

Here is some of the science a story on the sourcing of this beneficial oil Contributed by Dr. Damian Rodriguez DHSc, MS

Black Spruce is one of the most interesting essential oil stories.

Picea mariana dominates the landscape of much of Alaska and specific regions of Canada because of its ability to flourish in areas with long winters and varying topography.

This abundance of growth creates a significant problem: waste. Along with having a myriad of well-being promoting benefits that are unique in the essential oil world, the extraction of Black Spruce essential oil is the epitome of environmental stewardship.

The Carrier people used black spruce wood to make fish traps. Other aboriginal people made snowshoe frames and drying racks. They also used powdered resin on wounds to speed healing.

How Does doTERRA Source Black Spruce?

Black Spruce trunks are generally considered too small and too soft for timber so they are primarily used in paper and various other wood-based products, such as chopsticks. Once the trunks have been stripped, the remnants are basically left to rot. This creates a significant issue that affects both the environment and the local economy.

Together with its harvesting partner, doTERRA figured out an environmentally responsible way to use what ultimately may be the most valuable parts of the Black Spruce tree: the branches and leaves (needles) that contain the woody, slightly balsamic smelling essential oils.

  • First, the remaining branches and needles are steam distilled
  • then the remaining mash is burned by a local power plant
  • the resulting steam is used to facilitate the extraction of more essential oils.

doTERRA has facilitated an ingenious close-looped system that benefits the environment, several different businesses, and especially all of us, who now have access to this wonderful essential oil.

The Chemistry of Black Spruce

Essential oils from spruce species are quite rare and unique.

Some varieties, such as Hemlock, Norway, and White spruces do produce essential oil, but with far less yield and spectrum of benefits than Picea mariana.

Furthermore, while most tree-derived essential oils share a handful of similar characteristics (they are great for the skin and hair) offering aromas to calm and ground emotions, Black Spruce is a little different. The composition of Black Spruce essential oil is dominated by two compounds you might want to familiarize yourself with, bornyl acetate and alpha-pinene. But Black Spruce also has a complex mixture including significant concentrations of camphene and delta-3-carene.

Benefits and Uses of Black Spruce

Due to this distinct chemical makeup, Black Spruce has some properties you might not normally associate with tree oils.

For instance, Black Spruce is surface cleansing, likely due to its concentration of delta-3-carene1.

Just be aware, Black Spruce is not recommended for internal use, so follow recommended guidelines including gargling with warm water or a high-quality mouthwash after use.

Essential Oils and Pregnancy

Learn how to use essential oils during pregnancy

Essential oils can be useful for creating a healthy body, supporting the immune system, soothing feelings of discomfort, and more.*

Because of these powerful benefits, essential oils are useful and effective during every phase of life—even during pregnancy. By following proper safety guidelines, you can feel confident in using essential oils during pregnancy and delivery.

When you are pregnant, your body goes through a wide variety of changes. These changes often bring feelings of discomfort and sensitivity throughout the body. While every pregnancy is a little different, the goal is to support the healthy, proper function of the entire body. Along with proper nutrition and regular exercise, essential oils can be used during pregnancy to help support a healthy body and healthy baby.

Is it safe to use essential oils while I’m pregnant?

You might be wondering, “It is safe to use essential oils during pregnancy?” Due to the ethical issue of testing expecting mothers and their fetuses, there are limited clinical studies addressing the safety of essential oils during pregnancy. However, we can rely on the history of safe use to determine which essential oils to use during pregnancy.

It is important to remember that during pregnancy, it is not uncommon for a woman to be sensitive to essential oils. Due to these sensitivities and all of the changes that occur in the body when pregnant, it is important to consult with your doctor before using essential oils during pregnancy.

Talking to your doctor about using essential oils while pregnant

Even if you’ve used essential oils before without incident, you should still inform your doctor of any essential oils you plan to use during your pregnancy. Your doctor knows you, your specific health concerns, and the status of your pregnancy, and therefore, should be aware of any and all essential oil products you plan to use during pregnancy.

Because each pregnancy is different, your doctor is the best resource for making a treatment plan and determining which essential oils are best to use during pregnancy for each individual. Your doctor can give you a good idea of what to avoid during pregnancy, and any other safety measures you should take based on your personal health and the health of your growing baby.

Other safety guidelines for using essential oils when pregnant

As mentioned, it is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience increased sensitivity to essential oils. You might consider adapting the amount of oil you use or application methods when using essential oils during pregnancy to help with any sensitivities that arise.

It is also important to remember that not all essential oils are created equal. It is crucial that you use pure essential oils during pregnancy—you will want oils that are free of toxins and contaminants. All doTERRA essential oils are thoroughly tested to ensure purity and safety, and when used appropriately, provide a safe option during pregnancy.

What essential oils are safe to use during pregnancy?

Once you’ve talked with your doctor about your pregnancy and essential oils, you can start to safely use essential oils during pregnancy. Here are a few ideas for how to use essential oils during pregnancy:

Essential oils for morning sickness and nausea:

  • Peppermint oil and Cardamom oil can alleviate occasional stomach upset when taken in veggie capsules or added to water.
  • Ginger oil may help reduce occasional nausea when taken internally.
  • Spearmint oil offers many of the same benefits as Peppermint oil, but serves as a milder option to help with sensitivity or stomach upset that occurs during pregnancy.
  • The DigestZen® Digestive Blend is doTERRA’s tummy tamer blend and provides a healthy, natural way to soothe an upset stomach.

Essential oils for heartburn: DigestTab® Chewable Tablets are infused with the DigestZen tummy tamer blend, delivering digestion-supportive oils, and the acid-neutralizing benefits of calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate helps maintain stomach acid balance to help you deal with the discomfort that comes from heartburn and indigestion—without the chalky aftertaste.

Essential oils for pregnancy back discomfort: Massaging soothing essential oil blends like Deep Blue® on the lower back can be helpful when experiencing back discomfort. When discomfort in the legs or feet arise, rubbing the AromaTouch® Massage Blend on the lower extremities can help these problem areas.

Essential oils for better sleep during pregnancy: Good sleep and rest are paramount during pregnancy. Blends like doTERRA Balance®doTERRA Breathe®doTERRA Serenity®, are full of calming and soothing essential oils and can be used aromatically create a relaxing environment. Other essential oils like Clary Sage, Dill, Lavender, and Sandalwood promote feelings of calmness and can create an ideal atmosphere for achieving a good night of rest. In addition to diffusion and aromatic use, these oils can also be applied topically or used internally when appropriate.

For restful sleep during pregnancy, try the following suggestions:

  • Place a few drops of essential oil on your blankets or pillows at nighttime.
  • Diffuse calming essential oils for 30 minutes before going to bed.
  • Add one to two drops of Lavender oil to a cup of hot water for a relaxing tea that can help you unwind at bedtime.

Essential oils for better skin during pregnancy: A pregnant woman’s body is ever changing, and this includes changes in the skin. As the body works to keep up with a growing fetus, the skin can often become stretched and taut. Another challenge that many women experience during pregnancy is an increase in oil production of the skin. Thankfully, many essential oils can help to reduce the appearance of oily skin, reduce the appearance of blemishes, and beautify the skin.

Here are a few of the best essential oils for skin during pregnancy:

Essential oils for emotional support during pregnancy: In addition to all of the changes occurring in the body during pregnancy, the changes in a woman’s hormones can cause heightened emotions. To manage mood during pregnancy, consider using any of the essential oils from the doTERRA Emotional Aromatherapy System. This collection provides a variety of oils to help you deal with the wide range of emotions that you’ll encounter throughout your pregnancy. Use these oils and any of your favorite calming, soothing, or uplifting oils to help manage your mood during the emotionally taxing months of pregnancy.

Essential oils for labor and delivery:

Because essential oils promote uplifting and calming feelings, they can be extremely useful during labor and delivery when stress, anxious feelings, and emotions are running high. Research shows that women who use essential oils during labor and delivery have reported less anxious feelings and felt more positive about their experience, when compared to women who did not use essential oils.

  • Use Black Pepper and Basil oil diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil on the lower back to ease discomfort during labor.
  • The combination of doTERRA Balance® and Wild Orange oil make a good blend, especially during delivery when you want to balance emotions and dispel anxious feelings.
  • Try using the AromaTouch® blend topically for comforting and relaxing effects. This blend helps to soothe the mind and the body, and is especially helpful for soothing areas of tension and stress when applied to the back and shoulders.
  • Clary Sage oil can be used to reduce tension, which is helpful for contractions. Consider blending Clary Sage with other calming essential oils like Lavender oil or Geranium oil

Is it safe to use essential oils when breastfeeding?

In addition to concerns about essential oils and pregnancy, many people ask, “Is it safe to use essential oils while breastfeeding?” While the body changes significantly during pregnancy, these changes don’t end with the birth of the baby—your body will continue to change as you adapt to post-partum life. Just as you should discuss the use of essential oils with your doctor before using them for pregnancy, you’ll also want to consult with your physician when you begin nursing.

Again, your doctor is the best resource for advice when it comes to your body, your baby, and any special concerns you might have. Just as you would check with your doctor before using any new products when breastfeeding, it is important to discuss your essential oil use with your healthcare professional when you become a nursing mother.

Like pregnancy, breastfeeding places a lot of demands on a mother’s body. When nursing, the goal is to maintain a strong and healthy body that will support a healthy newborn. With the help of your doctor, you can use essential oils and essential oil products that support healthy function of the whole body.

Personally, I discovered essential oils over 15 years ago and although my pregnancy days are years behind me I have had many friends and clients who have thanked me for introducing them to essential oils during their pregnancies to support them with skin, sleep, immune and most important emotional related issues.

Stephanie Fritz also known as The Essential Midwife, has a very successful midwifery practice in Southeast Arizona. doTERRA interviewed her to find out a little more about using essential oils during pregnancy and with children.

Her advice when educating her clients on this topic is simple: “My intention in a class about using essential oils during pregnancy is to eliminate the fears around using essential oils during pregnancy, birth, and with your children or babies.” Remembering the lessons from our Introduction to Oils Workshops you will recall the importance of Purity from doTERRA. This is so important to trusting that these oils are Safe, Effective, and Affordable.

In addition to the use of essential oils for reasons mentioned above I like to focus on the following guideline for supporting Pregnant mommas :

1. Let’s talk about the importance of nutrition. I think we can all agree with Stephanie who says, “Nutrition is the number one thing to watch during pregnancy. I always refer to diet even before bringing up essential oils. For example, I recommend that you have 80-100 grams of protein, dark green leafy veggies, and that you drink at least 3-4 quarts of water every day. Only after you have the proper nutrition do you add in essential oils and supplements from doTERRA®.”

2. Specific essential oils and supplements that are safe to use for each stage of pregnancy and with babies. It is very important to consult with your health care professional about any supplements you are taking. Stephanie recommends:

  • doTERRA Microplex MVp. “It’s a great supplement to add to your doTERRA wellness lifestyle even before pregnancy. With my clients, I talk about it being a wholefood supplement and that our bodies assimilate that much better than synthetic vitamins. You can use this supplement no matter what stage of life you are in.”
    • Note: Sometimes even the healthiest of diets fail to offer optimum nutrition, which is why a prenatal is often recommended. Although not specifically designed to be a prenatal, many women, working closely with their qualified healthcare provider, choose to take Microplex to help fill nutritional gaps. Also, many women choose to take xEO Mega®, which provides important brain-development nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids (particularly DHA). Ultimately, choosing the right supplements is a personal choice and establishing open communication between patient and qualified healthcare provider is especially important during pregnancy.
  • Peppermint, Ginger, and Cardamom. Any of these oils can be used mostly during the first trimester to help aid digestion*. Of these, Cardamom is my favorite.
  • Fractionated Coconut Oil with Immortelle. Dilute Immortelle with the coconut oil and spread it over your stomach during the second trimester. This is great for your skin and improves the appearance of fine lines.
  • Citrus oils: Lemon, Lime, and Grapefruit. These oils should be especially used in third trimester to help cleanse and support your digestive system*.
  • Wild Orange and doTERRA Balance®
    • You can diffuse both oils during labor and delivery. These are my two favorite oils to diffuse because they establish a calm atmosphere.
  • doTERRA Healthy Start Kit
    • Transforming your mind, body, and home has never been easier with essential oils and essential oil infused products. With doTERRA, you can be confident that your essential oils are safe, pure, and effective. This kit contains ( Lavender, Lemon, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Oregano, Frankincense, Deep Blue, Breathe, OnGuard, DigestZen in 5ml bottles) the Family Essentials Kit and Brevi® Stone Diffuser.

**Pregnant or lactating women should consult a physician prior to the use of dietary supplements and cosmetics. Also, consult a physician prior to giving supplements to, or applying cosmetics on infants.
