Roman Chamomile Essential Oil

Roman Chamomile – Anthemis nobilis

This essential oil is calming to the body* and to the emotions. Its scent is gentle, yet strong. Roman Chamomile provides a truly soothing effect for the mind and body* as well as the skin.

Roman Chamomile has long been one of my favorite calming oils and in my opinion it isn’t overly floral in fragrance, which is why I like to use it in lotions and beard oils for my husband.

Usage Tips:

  • Add a couple drops to your herbal tea to make your own chamomile tea while simultaneously accessing the relaxing internal benefits.*
  • Rub into the feet to help soothe and calm a fussy child before a nap or bedtime.
  • Add a few drops into your favorite skin and hair care products to promote healthy-looking skin and hair with a floral, sweet twist in scent.
  • Diffuse Roman Chamomile, or a blend that includes it, during your bedtime routine to help ease your mind and body as they unwind and prepare for sleep.

How Do You Use Roman Chamomile Essential Oil?

Sweet, floral, and herbaceous, the aroma of Roman Chamomile is soothing. Aromatically and topically it is soothing to the skin and emotions. You can apply Roman Chamomile to sensitive skin for its calming and relaxing effects. Isoamyl tiglate—one of the main chemical components of Roman Chamomile essential oil—promotes feelings of relaxation during times of anxiousness or discomfort, especially when used aromatically. You can diffuse it, apply it to pulse points, and inhale it from the hands to aid feelings of serenity and calm.

What Are the Benefits of Roman Chamomile Oil?

It is also soothing to the body systems when taken internally.* This is primarily due to the chemical constituent Isobutyl angelate. Experimental research suggests that it may help soothe the digestive and immune systems, as well as generally provide calming properties throughout the body.*

Human clinical research done with women in postpartum care found that a combination of Roman Chamomile, Lavender, Myrrh, Neroli, Rose, Grapefruit, Mandarin, and Orange oil in an aroma-sitz bath or soap provided soothing properties. Roman Chamomile is also a part of the ClaryCalm® Monthly Blend for Women.

Where Does Roman Chamomile Essential Oil Come From?

Roman Chamomile essential oil is steam distilled from the flower of the plant. These flowers are daisy-like and smell sweet—almost like apples. There are several varieties of chamomile. The most common use of chamomile is in herbal teas, but it is also used for its fragrance in many perfumes and personal care products.

A Personal Note:

After using essential oils in our home for well over 18 years it may be hard to believe, but I do have my favorites. You know what I mean? You can love them all but there are a certain few that just stick out and work with you or affect you in just the right way. Well, I can admit that Roman Chamomile is one of those oils. I personally like to apply it to the bottoms of my feet if I am overtired and need to take a rest. I personally find this oil very soothing and I think you may too.

Healthy Habits Challenge

Healthy Habits are truly something we all know about but rarely make routine.

Whether traveling or enjoying your favorite past time (like riding your motorcycle), there are small things we can do to create Healthier Habits which ultimately will make us Healthy, Happy, and Strong.

But there are several things that can create an imbalance in our health. And we do them on a daily basis, they include…

  • Dehydration- not enough water! Drinking coffee, alcohol, juices, soda, vitamin waters or other commercial flavored waters aren’t replenishing enough (look at labels for sugars)
  • Irregular/non-healthy diet (fast food and restaurants are terrible for balanced nutrition) even too many salads can mess with your gut and most salad dressings are loaded with sugars.
  • Exposure. Sun brings life! And many are vitamin D deficient, especially following a long winter. However, too much of a good thing…is too much. Our skin is the largest organ of our body, protect it from too much sun and wind and extreme elements …
  • Over-the-counter and prescription symptom relievers… we all know someone who takes “something” for aches and pains, or blood sugar, or allergies, headaches, etc. All symptoms of imbalanced health, and commercially treated to mask the symptom not fix the cause. (another topic for impaired driving/riding…)
  • Physical restrictions. Sitting on the couch, recliner, office chair, or in a plane, car, train, or on a bike for too long. Our bodies were made and meant to move!
  • Solitude, self-doubt, procrastination, fear, anger, sadness, guilt (mental health): Anything and everything or anybody that keeps us from growing, learning, developing, laughing, etc. Things do happen and it is important to process and even mourn, but don’t build a house around it and live there… Fight hard to get back to your mental happy place! Sometimes people are toxic, seek out a healthy community, and support of a network that lifts your spirits, feeds your soul, and gives you purpose.

Daily Habits Challenge

Need some ideas of habits that will help you build a healthy lifestyle?

I’m always saying “we don’t know what we don’t know”, well knowing something doesn’t make it a habit.

We need to be mindful and practice new habits to make them a part of our routine. After all we weren’t always fat, or sore, or sad, or achey, or unhappy. That shit happened over time (we practiced).

We can do this!

Here is some help, Regional Healthy Habits Tours are happening now …

DIY: LIP BALM

Making lip balm can be simple! Try this easy DIY lip balm that is moisturizing and healthy for your lips. And my husband loves them too!

Ingredients

1 ounce beeswax
1 ounce coconut oil
½ ounce shea butter
½ ounce cocoa butter
20 drops Peppermint oil
10 drops Lavender oil

You will also need about 20 Lip Gloss Containers or Lip Balm Dispensers for this.

Note: This recipe makes three ounces of lip balm, so make sure you have enough containers. This recipe will make 20 lip balm dispenser tubes. You can always reduce the batch size by cutting the recipe in half.

I find when I sit down with friends we like to only make a couple so you can adjust the recipe to make more or less.

Instructions

  1. Line up empty containers. If using a lip balm stick, make sure it has been twisted down.
  2. Measure butters and oils and place in glass jar (or a small glass measuring cup).
  3. Fill a large saucepan with one to one and a half inches of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add glass jar to center of saucepan. Or you can place jar/measuring cup in the microwave oven for 1 min. intervals.
  4. Stir every few minutes until ingredients are melted and combined.
  5. Once wax is melted, remove from heat and let sit for three minutes to cool down then add essential oils.
  6. Pour mixture into lip balm containers and let cool.

WANT A TINT OF COLOR? Add a pinch of colored mineral makeup until you get your desired color. Stir until combined.
Pour tinted lip balm into containers and let cool.

Here is another fun recipe using Koolaide for coloring.

And another natural recipe which has similar ingredients. Why you ask? Well you just need to understand this isn’t a complicated recipe and anyone can make these at home with these simple ingredients and of course we only recommend doTERRA essential oils for consistent quality.

NOTE FOR SAFETY: DO NOT USE CITRUS OILS IN THESE. You lips will always be exposed to the UV light (unless you live in a cave) and Citrus oils are photosensitive, even if diluted I would not want anyone to get sun burned from wearing a chapstick made with citrus essential oils.

Use this handy filling tray to make filling the containers easier. You can get one at Aromatools.

Do you want to make only ONE !?

Ingredients for only One Lip Balm:

• ¼ tsp beeswax
• ¼ tsp carrier oil like coconut oil, sweet almond, etc.
• ½ tsp pure shea butter
• 2 drops of essential oil like lavender, peppermint, vanilla, geranium, green mandarin, etc. (avoid using phototoxic citrus essential oils like lemon, lime, grapefruit, bergamot, etc.)
• 1 empty lip balm tube
• A small pyrex measuring cup
• A small spatula
• A kitchen towel

You can also do a simpler version of ¼ tsp beeswax and ¾ tsp of carrier oil. All you have to remember is that the wax to oil ratio is 1:3.

Preparation

1. Measure out your wax, shea butter, and carrier oil and add them to the pyrex measuring cup.
2. Fill a sauce pan about an inch of water and then place the pyrex measuring cup to the pan.
3. Bring the water to a boil and wait for the ingredients to melt completely, stirring on occasion to mix.
4. Prepare your lip balm tube (I usually place something underneath it the capture any spills).
5. Once the ingredients have melted, remove from the water bath and place the pyrex on a folded towel to prevent the contents from cooling too quickly.
6. Add your essential oil and stir to mix.
7. Carefully fill your lip balm tube to the top and let it cool completely before capping. Use the spatula to help scrape the melted ingredients from the sides if needed.
8. Wipe the outside of the tube to remove any oils and then label it.
9. Enjoy your singular tube of lip balm!

EASIER, just add the wax, shea butter, and carrier oil to a pyrex measuring cup and pop it in the microwave for 10-15 second increments until completely melted. Add your EOs, mix, and pour.

Tip: If you want a harder lip balm, add an additional half ounce of beeswax. For an even softer lip balm, add an additional half ounce of coconut oil. This lip balm makes a great gift and can easily be customized. Change the color or the scent by using a variety of mineral makeup and essential oils. If you don’t have time to make your own lip balm then try one of the doTERRA SPA Lip Balm flavors.
