Lime Essential Oil

Lime – Citrus aurantifolia

Known for its distinct aroma and taste, Lime provides cleansing benefits when taken internally or used topically—making it the perfect oil for purifying skin and surfaces.*

Historical Uses
For some time, lime was used as a remedy for dyspepsia with glycerin of pepsin. It was often used in place of lemon for fevers, infections, sore throats, colds, etc.

Other Possible Uses
This oil may be beneficial for anxiety, blood pressure, soothing broken capillaries, dissolving cellulite, improving clarity of thought, debility, energy, gallstones, hair (cleansing), promoting leukocyte formation, liver deficiencies in children, lymphatic system cleansing, memory improvement, nails (strengthening), nervous conditions, cleaning children’s skin, sore throats, water and air purification, and promoting a sense of well-being. It works extremely well in removing gum, wood stain, oil, and grease spots. It may also help brighten a pale, dull complexion by removing the dead skin cells. Lime oil is capable of tightening skin and connective tissue.

Lime Oil Uses and Benefits

Known for its purifying properties, Lime essential oil is often used as an internal cleanser.* Lime oil may also support healthy immune function.* When you want to reap these internal benefits, consider adding a drop or two of Lime oil to your water glass or water bottle to enhance the flavor and provide antioxidant support.* If you want a flavorful drink that isn’t soda or full of sugar, you can also place a drop of Lemon and a drop of Lime oil in your water for a refreshing, sweet flavor. But only a drop or two!! A little goes a long way!!!
  2. Looking to add flavor to a side dish? You can always add a drop of Lime essential oil to give it an extra punch of flavor. Lime oil is also a delicious addition to starchy foods like corn or potatoes, a drop to your beer or cocktail or salsa or side dish…

DIY: LIP BALM

Making lip balm can be simple! Try this easy DIY lip balm that is moisturizing and healthy for your lips. And my husband loves them too!

Ingredients

1 ounce beeswax
1 ounce coconut oil
½ ounce shea butter
½ ounce cocoa butter
20 drops Peppermint oil
10 drops Lavender oil

You will also need about 20 Lip Gloss Containers or Lip Balm Dispensers for this.

Note: This recipe makes three ounces of lip balm, so make sure you have enough containers. This recipe will make 20 lip balm dispenser tubes. You can always reduce the batch size by cutting the recipe in half.

I find when I sit down with friends we like to only make a couple so you can adjust the recipe to make more or less.

Instructions

  1. Line up empty containers. If using a lip balm stick, make sure it has been twisted down.
  2. Measure butters and oils and place in glass jar (or a small glass measuring cup).
  3. Fill a large saucepan with one to one and a half inches of water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, add glass jar to center of saucepan. Or you can place jar/measuring cup in the microwave oven for 1 min. intervals.
  4. Stir every few minutes until ingredients are melted and combined.
  5. Once wax is melted, remove from heat and let sit for three minutes to cool down then add essential oils.
  6. Pour mixture into lip balm containers and let cool.

WANT A TINT OF COLOR? Add a pinch of colored mineral makeup until you get your desired color. Stir until combined.
Pour tinted lip balm into containers and let cool.

Here is another fun recipe using Koolaide for coloring.

And another natural recipe which has similar ingredients. Why you ask? Well you just need to understand this isn’t a complicated recipe and anyone can make these at home with these simple ingredients and of course we only recommend doTERRA essential oils for consistent quality.

NOTE FOR SAFETY: DO NOT USE CITRUS OILS IN THESE. You lips will always be exposed to the UV light (unless you live in a cave) and Citrus oils are photosensitive, even if diluted I would not want anyone to get sun burned from wearing a chapstick made with citrus essential oils.

Use this handy filling tray to make filling the containers easier. You can get one at Aromatools.

Do you want to make only ONE !?

Ingredients for only One Lip Balm:

• ¼ tsp beeswax
• ¼ tsp carrier oil like coconut oil, sweet almond, etc.
• ½ tsp pure shea butter
• 2 drops of essential oil like lavender, peppermint, vanilla, geranium, green mandarin, etc. (avoid using phototoxic citrus essential oils like lemon, lime, grapefruit, bergamot, etc.)
• 1 empty lip balm tube
• A small pyrex measuring cup
• A small spatula
• A kitchen towel

You can also do a simpler version of ¼ tsp beeswax and ¾ tsp of carrier oil. All you have to remember is that the wax to oil ratio is 1:3.

Preparation

1. Measure out your wax, shea butter, and carrier oil and add them to the pyrex measuring cup.
2. Fill a sauce pan about an inch of water and then place the pyrex measuring cup to the pan.
3. Bring the water to a boil and wait for the ingredients to melt completely, stirring on occasion to mix.
4. Prepare your lip balm tube (I usually place something underneath it the capture any spills).
5. Once the ingredients have melted, remove from the water bath and place the pyrex on a folded towel to prevent the contents from cooling too quickly.
6. Add your essential oil and stir to mix.
7. Carefully fill your lip balm tube to the top and let it cool completely before capping. Use the spatula to help scrape the melted ingredients from the sides if needed.
8. Wipe the outside of the tube to remove any oils and then label it.
9. Enjoy your singular tube of lip balm!

EASIER, just add the wax, shea butter, and carrier oil to a pyrex measuring cup and pop it in the microwave for 10-15 second increments until completely melted. Add your EOs, mix, and pour.

Tip: If you want a harder lip balm, add an additional half ounce of beeswax. For an even softer lip balm, add an additional half ounce of coconut oil. This lip balm makes a great gift and can easily be customized. Change the color or the scent by using a variety of mineral makeup and essential oils. If you don’t have time to make your own lip balm then try one of the doTERRA SPA Lip Balm flavors.

Ginger Zingiber officinale

A featured ingredient in many Asian dishes, Ginger has a hot, fragrant flavor when used as a kitchen spice. In Western tradition, Ginger is most often used in sweets—gingerbread and ginger snaps being two examples. Internal use of Ginger is best known as a digestive aid and for helping to ease occasional indigestion and nausea.* Ginger essential oil can also be applied topically or inhaled for a soothing aroma. When used as a kitchen spice, the hot, earthy nature of Ginger adds flavor to a variety of dishes, and can help to support healthy digestion.*

doTERRA’s Ginger Pancake Recipe

We love to travel, but endless miles and you may sometimes experience occasional nausea from sitting in a car for too long. Something I found that really works for me and others I know is dōTERRA Ginger essential oil. dōTERRA Ginger can help reduce occasional nausea by either being applied topically or inhaled.* I diffuse it in the car diffuser for everyone to enjoy or place a drop of ginger in the palm of my hand and inhale to create a soothing aroma.

Achy joints from sitting too long?

Ginger has a longstanding reputation for reducing chronic inflammation due to the anti-inflammatory effects of gingerols, which are compounds in the ginger plant. Ginger essential oil may contain other compounds that help to ease the symptoms of RA, too.

A 2016 study Trusted Source investigated the anti-inflammatory effects of ginger essential oil in rat models of RA. Rats that had received injections of the oil exhibited reduced rates of chronic joint inflammation. However, further studies involving human participants are necessary to confirm the effects.

People can try diluting ginger essential oil in a safe amount of carrier oil and applying it to the joints.

Uses

  • During a long car ride, diffuse or place drop in palm and inhale.
  • Apply over lower abdomen for a soothing massage and stomach upset.
  • Apply over achy joints for a warm circulating massage to reduce inflammation*
  • Use Ginger essential oil in your favorite sweet and savory dishes or in a warm spiced tea.

Directions for Use

Diffusion: Use three to four drops in the diffuser of your choice.
Internal use: Dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid.
Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with doTERRA Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.

Cautions – Possible skin sensitivity, always use a carrier oil or lotion when applying topically. Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.
